Mapecca ‘killer’ back in court

- Peter Matika Senior Reporter

CROSS border transport-cum businessman Oricious “Oros” Moyo, accused of killing former Siyaya Arts member Tawanda “MaPecca” Moyo, was last Friday pictured smiling in court, after his case was further remanded.

Moyo, who is a well-known malayitsha and owns a fast food outlet in the city, was last week further remanded out of custody by Bulawayo magistrate Mr Franklin Mkhwananzi to 16 March.

Moyo, who has been enjoying freedom since being released from custody early this year, was clad in a striped brown shirt, brown belt, khaki trousers and brown formal shoes, when he briefly appeared in court last Friday. He was granted $2 000 bail in January by the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe.

Moyo, had since from the time of his arrest in September last year been denied bail by lower courts, in view of the gravity of his offence.

Moyo has been appearing in court for routine remand, since the time of his arrest last year. He made an urgent bail application to the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe, after lower courts had denied him bail. His application was considered and was granted bail on 8 January this year, by Supreme Court judge Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza.

He was ordered to pay $2 000, surrender his passport to the registrar of the Bulawayo High Court, reside at his stated address in Emganwini suburb, until the matter is resolved and does not interfere with witnesses and investigators.

The story dates back to sometime in July when MaPecca trailed and confronted his wife Mrs Jacqueline Chesigelenaso (Banda) Moyo and Moyo to Moyo’s house in Emganwini, where he was shot and left with a bullet lodged in the abdomen by the accused.

MaPecca was hospitalised for about a month but later died due to complications caused by the shooting. Following his death his family demanded justice and even went on to perform a ritual at Moyo’s fast food outlet in the city, where they temporarily dumped MaPecca’s casket at the entrance.

Friends and family members accused Moyo of having an illicit affair with MaPecca’s wife, who used to work for him, resulting in the deceased trailing the two alleged love birds to a point where he was allegedly shot by the businessman.
