Fancy outdoor decor

- Amanda Ncube

IT has become a norm that homeowners or decorators in high-density suburbs are always complaining about space constraints when it comes to outdoor décor.

However, that is not the case with Mrs Etah Mpunzi, a homeowner who specialises in outdoor décor.

Here are some tips that will change your perception of high density suburbs and exteriors.

Mrs Mpunzi managed to turn her yard into a beautiful retreat . . . so beautiful is the yard that people take wedding photos in her garden. The view is sophisticated, it provides an aesthetic view.

Tranquil, modest and chic is what you feel when you walk in this garden, a refreshing, calm and elegant atmosphere is what you feel.

According to Mrs Mpunzi, she found inspiration in flowers, plants and animals.

“I have always loved flowers and plants; ever since I was young I used to be involved in whatever my parents were doing in their garden. I usually find peace when I am doing, that” she mused.

“This keeps me busy as a mother, as a mother even though you are always home there is no need to be useless, there is some handy work that you can do.

She said for every garden to be beautiful, there should be a theme, an aim and an end result.

“For my garden my theme was a mixture of love, wedding and family. What I was aiming for was something unique and sophisticated, and the end result was a good mix of luxury and design that offers relaxation and comfort,” she said.

“I planted various flowers and plants in my garden for different purposes. I planted duranta plant purposively because it can be designed into anything. I styled one of the duranta trees into a couch, another into baskets and another one into a three-tier cake,” she explained. “If you notice all of those things that I have mentioned you will find them at a wedding.”

Mrs Mpunzi added that: “I also have petunia flowers and roses which are in different colours such as yellow, red and white to make the garden look beautiful, in each colour of the roses you will find that they symbolise one of my themes one way or the other. I maintain my lawn so that it always has that natural green colour. I also have artificial animals, not too many but just here and there. If you look around there are red vases that symbolises love and a welcoming feel.”

She explained that to accessorise her garden she places solar lights around and hanging baskets.

“Flowers are not only for decorative purposes but they also give life, whenever we have nothing to do with my husband we sit and watch this beautiful view and get refreshing air. The views of artificial animals is exquisite,”

“I get people who ask to use my garden to take wedding pictures, while other people take pictures there to post on social media,” she added.

Mrs Mpunzi ended by saying: “To me it is not about space but it is about art, I managed to squeeze all of the things that I wanted in the space provided and it came out exquisite in a way that I could not have imagined.”
