Bulawayo to host tertiary games

- Patrick Mushunje Sports reporter

BULAWAYO will next month host the Zimbabwe University Sports Association (Zusa) championships from 13 to 15 April.

The three-day sporting fiesta will see colleges and universities compete in indoor and outdoor disciplines that include swimming, table tennis, tennis, softball demonstrations, chess, pool, volleyball, rugby, golf and cricket.

The National University of Science and Technology will be the central venue, with most games being held there while rugby will be played at Hartsfield Rugby Ground. Midlands State University rugby captain Denham Zimbudzana has promised fireworks, having seen his team go down to the University of Zimbabwe in last year s’ final.

This year is all about revenge, we will go out there and defend the Titans’ name, last year we got silver after losing to UZ in the final, the score was tight and the best team won but this year we want to get the gold medal and looking at the current crop of players that we have, I see no one stopping us, it’s all fireworks this year,” he said.

After the Zusa Games, selected netball, softball, basketball, rugby, volleyball, darts and football players, will go and represent Zimbabwe at the Confederation of University and College and Sports Association (Cucsa) games at the University of Botswana scheduled for 16 to 24 July, while selected rugby players will go and represent the country at the International Federation of Universities Sport (Fisu) in Namibia from 12 to 17 July.
