Shot in the arm for Ingutsheni
INGUTSHENI Central Hospital in Bulawayo has received a timely donation of linen and bathroom accessories worth $10 000 from Cresta Churchill Hotel.
Cresta Hotels country director Mrs Chipo Mandela who was at the handover ceremony recently week said the hospitality group places value in helping the vulnerable groups.
“Our corporate social responsibility as Cresta Hotels places respect for people and institutions that are vulnerable. The work done by these institutions is absolutely fundamental to the well being of society as a whole and the initiatives that they take cement support for building a nation,” she said.
“We feel it is important to assist those people in organisations in fulfilment of their tasks such as supporting the beneficiaries of such activities and initiatives,” she said.
Ingutsheni operations director Mr Nyasha Chibvongodze said they were grateful for the support as they were different from other hospitals that charge patients.
He said the introduction of the Health Levy being deducted from mobile phone users has come in handy as it is assisting the institution.
“We have been assisted by this fund because we have managed to purchase medicines for the patients and I can confirm that we were safe in this regard. We have what we need for the patients in terms of medicines,” he said.
Hospital board member Dr Rose Ndlovu said corporate and other stakeholders should always remember to assist Ingutsheni as it survives on donations and funding from treasury.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Dr Thokozile Chitepo, who was representing the Minister said hospitality players should help the needy
“We hope this will be beneficial to staff and patients. However, the Ministry of Health (and Child Care) is concerned with the well being of these patients but we must understand the constraints that the Government is facing in trying to archive that. This is why players like Cresta have brought us here in trying to assist the hospital. We are also calling on other players to come and support this,” she said.
