Zvishavane villagers get safe water

- Munyaradzi Musiiwa Midlands Correspondent

MORE than 200 households in Ingoma and Siname areas under Chief Mapanzure in Zvishavane were connected to tap water following the refurbishment of water tanks, a reservoir and the rehabilitation of water reticulation system in the area by Zanu-PF Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs, Cde Lewis Matutu.

Cde Matutu also procured a generator to pump water, which is sourced from underground, to the reservoir and tanks that have the capacity of holding 100 000 cubic litres.

Villagers in the area had been bedevilled by perennial water woes that saw most of them resorting to open wells and streams, some of which were contaminated as a result of mining activities in the area.

Cde Matutu said it was incumbent upon party leadership, legislators and the Government to ensure that people have access to clean water, even the rural community.

He said most people in mining communities such as Zvishavane, Mberengwa and Shurugwi were getting water from contaminated sources, a development which will have long term effects on their health.

“People in this area have been grappling with water challenges for a very long time. As leadership we felt it was prudent for us to source resources for them and connect them to tap water. We procured a tank, water pipes and a diesel engine water pump,” he said.

Cde Matutu also implored youths to desist from political violence and not to be used as conduits thereof.

“President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa has reiterated that we want a peaceful, free and fair election. I implore youths, who in most cases are used to perpetrate violence to desist from being pawns of politicians. Youths are being given worthless gifts such as beer and money that cannot transform their lives after which they will be go and unleash violence on the instigators’ perceived rivals,” he said.

Cde Matutu also built classroom blocks and teachers’ houses at Mapirimira Secondary, Tsure Secondary and Rupemba Primary Scools in Zvishavane.
