FALCON College teacher in charge of football, Rodwell Khumalo has hailed the contribution made by former Highlanders captain Dazzy Kapenya since he was appointed the private school’s first team coach at the beginning of the second term.

The 2002 Soccer Star of the Year led Mzala to winning the Conference of Heads of Independent Schools in Zimbabwe tournament at Kyle College in Masvingo last Saturday.

Falcon College triumphed 4-3 on penalties over Hillcrest in the final to win the tournament that was won by Peterhouse last year.

Khumalo, who is also the Falcon College soccer team manager, said Kapenya has made a tremendous contribution since he was engaged at the start of the second term.

He strongly believes that Kapenya will take charge of a big team in the not so distant future.

“Dazzy Kapenya has been a great asset since he has shared his experience throughout the age groups at Falcon College.

“His passion for the game is second to none, he will coach a formidable side in the near future,’’ Khumalo said.

Besides Kapenya, Khumalo, son of former top referee Thomas also praised the contribution of goalkeepers coach Tony Mupariwa.

In the preliminary round of the 15-team competition, Falcon College were in the same group with Lomagundi, St George’s College, South Eastern College and Goldridge.

They defeated St George’s College 2-0, won by the same score line against South Eastern College, beat Lomagundi 1-0 and saw off Goldridge 2-1 to finish on top of their pool.

Midlands Christian College stood in the way of Falcon College in the last eight but the boys from Esigodini were 8-7 victorious on penalties after the match had concluded 1-1 in normal time.

A 2-0 victory over Gateway in the semi-finals ensured of Kapenya and his boys a place in the final.

The final between Falcon College and Hillcrest ended in a 1-1 stalemate with the lads from Esigodini winning it on penalties.

Prayer Moyo was Player of the Tournament from Falcon College while another Falcon College player, Rodney Malambo won the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Moyo, Malambo, Methembe Mzizi and Nabil Ismail also made it into the select side to tour Germany.

Before they triumph in Masvingo, Falcon College had last won the CHISZ tournament in 2012.

Falcon College have won the competition seven times since it started in 2001.
