Aspiring Zanu-PF MP hosts massive sports gala

ELIPHAS Mashaba, an aspiring Zanu-PF Member of Parliament for Nketa- Emganwini constituen­cy yesterday hosted a sports gala at Nketa 9 grounds.

There were different sporting discipline­s which included soccer, netball and boxing. Mashaba said the tournament was meant to give youths a platform to showcase their talents.

“Basically this tournament is about inspiring the youths at the same time giving them a platform to showcase their talents as per our promise in the manifesto as a party. In our manifesto we said we are going to provide them with resources, more knowledge and expose them into new ideas”, he said.

He went on to say that sports acts as a unifier and also as a way to remove youths from illicit activities like drugs.

“As you know sports is the language understood by everyone and it unites us as people of Nketa and it is also good as it removes the youths from doing drugs and other social evils,” said Mashaba.

The sports gala had 20 teams for netball and soccer from the constituen­cy. Soccer teams comprised of Barca 9, Caps, Nketa Tigers, 7 Warriors, Sokusile, Roar Stars, Zone 8 and Munyoroyor­o while netball teams comprised of Foodood For Less, Nketa 7, Zinkwankwa, Leopards,ards, Golden Jets, Revolution, Flying Eagles,es, Sizinda, 7 Stars Golden girls and Royal Motlas.as.

Barcarca 9 beat Caps 1-0 in the men’s final to gett a kit and a trophy, while the second runnersers up won a kit and all the participat­ing teamss were given balls. In netball Royal Motlasas came out tops after dismissing Golden Girls in the final and they were also awarded a kit andnd a trophy and all the participat­ing teams won netball balls.

The winners in boxing were Clement Ndebele,bele, Prince Ndlovu, Lovemore Maurawa,rawa, Sthembelen­kosi Moyo,o, Earnest Ndlovu, Sithembile­mbile Ngwenya, Divinene Giyani, Almightygh­ty Moyo, Zibusisosi­so Nyoni, Adnetoreto­r Mabeza and Clive Simoza all wonon medals.
