Qualities of a good coach

Chicken Inn vs Caps United

(Luveve: 12 /09/2018 )

You might have noticed that I seldom write blaming referees, but the penalty given in the sixth minute to Caps United was so dubious that the word “dubious” cannot explain the incident. A Caps United player was fouled outside the box and to see the referee pointing to the spot was like he was telling us that every man and woman watching that game was blind.

The penalty was converted with ease by Joel Ngodzo. In the 8th minute Caps got another free kick just outside the Chicken Inn 18 area but the taker made a mess out of it.

Caps, who had technical and tactical superiority in the first 20 minutes of the game, doubled their lead in the 16th minute after a searching cross across the goal line eventually found the back of the net.

Caps could have been three-up sooner but Dominic Chungwa fluffed the chance. Chicken Inn had good moments too, Obriel Chirinda pushing a weak shot into the hands of Caps goalkeeper after a good cross from the right. Then a weak header from Dylan Nyandoro (Chicken Inn) also followed which did not trouble the keeper.

The goal which happened to be the winner was a precious gift to Caps before Christmas by a clumsy defender who was unmarked but gave away possession. To be honest, Caps does not have a good team. Oh yes, they can be fourth on the log, but the points difference with the team on top is so big thus supporting my argument. They only performed for 35 minutes of the game, come second half it was Chicken Inn whose players however, took turns to squander scoring chances and only got their consolation goal in the 55th minute.

Byo City vs Chicken Inn

(BF:15/09/2018)

It baffles the mind that Bulawayo City coach Bekithemba Ndlovu keeps saying his boys are playing well, yet they have lost about eight games now. I think their performance against Chicken Inn was scrappy.

I stopped taking notes on this game as early as the 20th minute. The opening goal by Chicken Inn was another gift after a City defender was dispossessed while trying to dribble at the back. And the second goal came late in the 85th minute from Darryl Nyandoro who scored from a corner kick. For a moment, Chicken Inn played like former champions and a team third on the log, stringing as much as 20 passes with City players chasing shadows. But City were to get a face saver in optional time.

Spain vs Croatia Former Barcelona coach Enrique, now the Spanish coach, saw his team displaying some pretty football where every Spain player was involved in the build up of all the six goals. This was a total destruction of Croatia who were World Cup finalists in Russia this year. It was an embarrassing score line with Spain getting bigger again on the world football map. The saying- “The connection between possession and success is an obvious thing” was on display with bold words.

Reasons behind poor performances by teams Acceptance must be given to the fact that best performances can only be achieved only when the inborn qualities of players are properly developed and consolidated into style. Coaches who enforce chances into the nature of their players to accommodate their own type of football are doomed to failure.

The confusion about the role of the playing styles in performance which makes less experienced coaches believe that modern features of competitive football are today universally reflected into global style needs to be clarified. The confusion rises from failure to distinguish the difference between the international trends that from time to time characterise the game and individual and or group particularities reflected in the way the game and such trends are performed. Simple one or two touch football cannot be viewed as playing unless it is inherited. Top qualities of a successful

coach

Regardless of whether you are naturally lively, enthusiastic or quiet and shy there are particular personal qualities required by all coaches for them to be effective. These qualities need to be harnessed with coaching skills. You coach to achieve full potential and enjoy football. The qualities of a good coach might include enthusiasm, open mindedness to help other people improve without the positive personal qualities. The most skilled technical coach might not be able to help players learn effectively; players do not like to be humiliated in public, the coach who shouts all the time can easily become a bore. Hundreds of coaches mistake volume for quality.
