Safeguard win Townsend and Butcher Cup

-

SAFEGUARD emerged winners of the Townsend and Butcher Bulawayo Amateur Football Association (Bafa) Cup after beating Chronicle Nga in the final played at Barbourfields Stadium B Arena yesterday.

The security company team won the match 2-0. They were off the blocks after just two minutes and quickly found the back of the net again eight minutes later to make it two goals within 10 minutes. Thamsanqa Ndebele and Tatenda Mukoni scored the goals.

The champions received a full kit plus medals. The losing finalists also got a full kit for their efforts. There were also awards for excelling individual players. To put icing on the cake, there were honorary awards for long serving members and other stakeholders who have helped push the Bafa brand.

The chairman of the Zifa Area Zones, Charles Chunda, thanked Townsend and Butcher for their continued support to the sport.

“Townsend and Butcher have been supporting Bafa for the past 61 years. That is the longest sponsorship in the history of any sporting discipline in the country and we want to thank them for their valued support. I also want to congratulate the winners and all teams that took part in the tournament. The sporting behaviour was very good,” he said.

Chunda added that honorary awards went to people who have supported Bafa. They were given blazers sponsored by Townsend and Butcher.

“There are many players, officials, council officials and even journalists who have supported Bafa one way or the other and we saw it fit to honour them. It is our way of saying thank you,” he said.
