Team Zimbabwe teach Irish a Polocrosse lesson

-

THE World Cup headed Zimbabwe national polocrosse team have won their three-match series against Ireland with a 28-12 triumph at Bulawayo Country Club yesterday.

Zimbabwe now have an unassailable lead heading into the final match of the series this afternoon at the same venue having defeated Ireland 37-10 last Friday.

Gavin Cocker, the Zimbabwean coach attributed his team’s scoring less to the fact that they were looking to do things differently from the day before.

“I think firstly today we wanted to work on a few different things, yes, we won by a big margin yesterday but the important thing is that Ireland scored 10 goals yesterday and today they scored 12 so looking at the difference we kept them to a similar pattern.

“We knew Ireland would improve because they are coming from a wet cold winter in Europe since they haven’t had much game time but overall I am happy and ready to go to the World Cup even though improvement is a continuous process,” said Cocker.

He also emphasised on the need for the team to work on thinking quickly, working with urgency since sport is about making good decisions quickly.

The teams will meet again today in a dead rubber match as preparations continue before Zimbabwe leave for South Africa in two weeks to carry on fine tuning for the World Cup.

Zimbabwe team manager Leanne McBean was happy for the team and hoped for the best when they land in Australia while also calling on the nation at large to come on board and help in the form of donations so that they can meet their bills to Australia and during their stay.
