Hockey coaching course coaches graduate

HOCKEY coaches in the region from all backgrounds continue to show interest in improving their knowledge about the game.

This was evident by the number of coaches who reported for a Hockey Association of Zimbabwe Level 2 coaching course hockey coaching course held at Khumalo Hockey Stadium recently.

This course was intended for male as well as female coaches of the game who aspire to grade their coaching skills to an international standard. According to the programme co-ordinator a substantial number of students both male as well as female enrolled for this two day course which ran for 16 hours in total.

In the end they all graduated with level two coaching course making them legible to sit on the bench of clubs as well as at national team level.

According to Osler Werrett, the MHB officer in charge of coaching, management and selectors the next stage will see the coaches reporting every Sunday for another capacity development programme emphasising on developing of junior players from the age of five years up to the age of eighteen.

At the same time these coaches are expected to start grooming more junior coaches from all walks of despite their background who will form the feeder group of coaches for the future.

In terms of the turnout Werrett said that it was very impressive considering that even ladies were part of these activities.

“The turnout was very good considering that we hardly get female participants taking part in such courses and the fact that we had trainers coming in from as far as Harare courtesy of the Hockey Association of Zimbabwe.

This is something that was long overdue in this province to have such high ranking people gracing our courses,” added Werrett.

In addition to that in due course focus with shift to the Level one indoor hockey coaching course in the next three months which is a slightly different package from the outdoor hockey package.
