No quick PSL return for Masvingo United

-

THERE is seemingly no quick return to the Premier Soccer League for Masvingo United who are fourth in the Zifa Eastern Region with Mutare-based Tenax, a team sponsored by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services likely to get promoted.

Masvingo United are fourth on the Eastern Region Division One log with 46 points from 13 wins and seven draws while they have lost six of the 26 matches they have played. Tenax lead the 16-team log with 58 points, three ahead of secondplaced Buffaloes and six in front of FC Makaha in third spot.

All the teams in the top four stand a chance of earning promotion with each having four fixtures before the end of the season. Some teams will, however, get removed from the promotion equation as the season draws to a close.

For Masvingo FC, their hopes of bringing back Premier Soccer League games to the Ancient City are not looking so great. One more win for Tenax will eliminate Masvingo from the title race.

No league fixtures are taking place in the Eastern Region Division One League this weekend since the referees were attending a course.

Meanwhile, Shabanie Mine boosted their chances of survival in the Central Region Soccer League with a 1-0 victory over Gokwe North at Maglas Stadium last Sunday. The win lifted the Chinda Boys to 12th spot on the log with 27 points.

Shabanie Mine, who went into last weekend’s fixtures occupying a relegation spot, are away to Blanket Mine in Gwanda this afternoon. Log leaders, Sheasham, who are moving close to promotion, are in Zvishavane this afternoon for a clash with FC Platinum Under-19 at Mandava. Sheasham are five points ahead of second-placed ZPC Munyati who are at home against relegation threatened Filabusi United.
