- Sports Reporter

AMBITIOUS Zifa Southern Region Division One Mainline Football Club has announced the launch of its official website.

According to the club’s secretary-general, Clistone Bazaya, the club realised the need to have an online presence both in social media and by launching a website. The club is sponsored by influential Plumtree rancher and businessman, Mkhulunyelwa Nkomo and South Africa-based businessman Jonathan Ndlovu.

“We studied football clubs across the world and realised that many have an online presence which has helped them grow their brands. Our website will enable us to share information about the club as well as provide a platform to promote our players,” Bazaya told Sunday News from the club’s base in Plumtree.

Bazaya said the website will feature several pages including player profiles, club information and match day statistics. The Mainline FC secretary-general also revealed that the website will feature match day live text commentary as it continues to be developed.

“Our domain is www.mainlinefc.co.zw but for now it is still work in progress but some of the key features will be live matchday text commentaries, player profiles, interviews and access to the club itself,” said Bazaya.

Mainline has set 2021 as its targeted entry into the Premier Soccer League and is currently gearing itself towards creating a brand that will appeal to the corporate world having already agreed to work with Greens Supermarket in a membership drive.

Meanwhile, the club’s supporters met last Wednesday and resolved to regularise their operations by working towards drafting and ultimately adopting a Constitution.

According to a member of the association’s interim executive, Chaka Mhiriphiri, the supporters association wants to play a more active and visible role in their club’s growth.

Mhiriphiri who is the organising secretary said the six-man executive has been mandated to draft a constitution for presentation to the association’s member after which it will be lodged with the club.

“We realise there is more we can do for the club as supporters but that there is also a need to regularise our operations so that the club can officially acknowledge our association and its efforts,” Mhiriphiri said.

Mhiriphiri also revealed that his association has begun an exercise to encourage its members to start paying subscriptions ahead of the club’s 2020 campaign. He said membership will have two classes, a bronze membership and gold membership.

The move has been welcomed by the club with Nkomo calling it a move in the right direction for the club’s ambitions of bringing much awaited premiership football to the border town.
