BAC hunt for first win in cricket league

- Mehluli Sibanda Senior Sports Reporter

DEFENDING champions in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association (BMCA) First League, Bulawayo Athletic Club continue with their hunt for a first win this season when they clash with Queens Sports Club at Queens.

The Fleming Nkomo captained BAC have had a terrible start to their title defence as they have lost all the four matches they have played so far this season. It all started with a 49-run loss to National University of Science and Technology in their opening match of the season. Things have not improved for BAC as they were again beaten by Nust, this time by six wickets at the Old Mutual Heath Streak Academy last Sunday.

BAC face a Queens team that is high on confidence following their 24-run triumph over top of the log Emakhandeni last Sunday. What is not helping the BAC situation is that they have to do without Tafara Mupariwa who is now playing cricket in Australia while Thamsanqa Nunu is also missing this match after being slapped with a one game ban by the BMCA disciplinary committee.

Queens have national team player Christopher Mpofu to inspire the rest of the team. Besides Mpofu, Dalubuhle Mboyi, Shane Nxumalo and Sheanopa Musekwa are some of the Queens players capable of steering them to a positive result.

Nkomo will look to motivate his team with his all round talent, while counting on the likes of Nkosana Mpofu, Mandisi Moyo, Prince Kaunda and Talent Dzikiti to drive the defending champions to their first win of the season.
