Triangle seek to advance to Caf Confed Cup mini league stage
TRIANGLE need three goals in 90 minutes of football at Barbourfields Stadium this afternoon to overcome Nouadhibou in the Caf Confederation Cup knock-out phase second leg.
Should Zimbabwe’s representatives in the Caf second tier club competition score enough goals required to progress, they are guaranteed of getting a minimum of US$275 000 before they kick the ball in the group stage. Triangle did not do themselves any favour last Sunday when they were beaten 2-0 in the first leg played at Stade Municipal de Nouadhibou in Mauritania.
It is now a mountain to climb for the Sugar Boys who must beat their opponents by a clear three-goal margin in order to get into the money. Qualification for the mini league stage comes with a guaranteed financial benefit of US$275 000 that is given to teams that will finish third and fourth in their respective groups. If Triangle make it to the quarter-finals, US$350 000 is in store. The incentive for making it into the last four is US$450 000, $625 000 will be given to the runners - up a n d $ 1,25 million to the winners of the competition.
Triangle coach, Taurai Mangwiro said they will seek inspiration from the numerous goal scoring opportunities they created in Mauritania in their bid to overturn their deficit.
“We will get a lot of encouragement from the number of good opportunities that we got and hope that we continue creating and perfect our conversion. At the moment it might appear an insurmountable task but I have seen crazy results in football and we hope to come good in the return leg,’’ Mangwiro said.
Heavily built striker Allan Tavarwisa will lead the Triangle quest for goals, with support expected from Collins Dhuwa and skipper Ralph Kawondera.
Triangle scored five goals against Rukinzo in the preliminary round against Rukinzo of Burundi, an indication that they have the arsenal to destroy Nouadhibou.
