Mudenda named Mat’land Under-13 skipper

LIAM Mudenda, a talented youngster from Petra College Junior has added yet another achievemen­t in cricket after he was named captain of the Matabelela­nd Under-13 team for a two-day Conference of Heads of Independen­t Schools of Zimbabwe interprovi­ncial tournament at Lilfordia School.

The tournament will be played on Friday up to Saturday.

Mudenda, who turns 12 on Tuesday, was named captain at a kit presentati­on ceremony held at Carmel School last Wednesday. James Thompson of Whitestone was announced as the vice-captain. Earlier on in the day, Mudenda scored 104 for his school team against Whitestone in a Twenty20 match played at Petra which ended in a tie. It was another accomplish­ment for the young batsman, who was last month named in the Zimbabwe Under-14 team for the Momentum Cricket Week scheduled for 7-11 December in Pretoria, South Africa.

Whitestone dominate the travelling squad of 13 players with eight of their youngsters making the trip. They are followed by Petra College Junior who contribute­d three while Carmel have one lad in the provincial team. Matabelela­nd Under-13 squad:

Ruan Nel, James Thomson, Zack Gower, Darren Ncube, Ryan Winterboer, Luis Gomes, Jonathan Stephens, Neil Rosenfels(all Whitestone), Liam Mudenda, Monde Msongelwa, Emmanuel Phiri(all Petra), Rowyn Konson(Carmel)

Non travelling reserves: Dylan Burton, Liam Nel (both Whitestone), Dylan Saudan, Rudra Dusai (both Carmel).
