Byo City, Whawha back in PSL

- Sports Reporter

BULAWAYO City have made a quick return to the Premier Soccer League after they were crowned Zifa Southern Division One champions yesterday, the same day that Whawha also secured promotion from the Central Region Soccer League.

Amakhosi, who only needed a draw in their last match against the already demoted Arenel Movers at Barbourfields Stadium clobbered their opponents 3-0 in a match that was watched by a sizeable crowd. Among the crowd was Bulawayo Mayor Solomon Mguni. The win saw City take their points tally for the season to 67.

Physiwell Madhazi struck a first half brace, with Zibusiso Sibanda scoring the third goal in the second stanza to seal a comfortable win for the Try Ncube-coached City.

Their rivals to the title, Talen Vision suffered a 1-0 loss away to Makomo in Hwange, a bad ending to what has been a wonderful season for Mkhuphali Masuku’s men who finished with 61 points. Amakhosi were presented with their medals as well as trophy by Zifa Southern Region officials who included chairman Andrew Tapela, board members Fiso Siziba and Tizirayi Luphahla.

In the Central Region, Whawha, who went into the last round of fixtures in second place, two points behind log leaders Sheasham defeated Shabanie Mine 2-0 at Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane. Sheasham required just a draw against Dulibadzimu to earn promotion only to be beaten 1-0 in Beitbridge with their hopes of playing in the PSL dashed.

Stanley Chapeta, the Zifa Central Region chairman said they will do the crowning ceremony soon in consultation with Whawha.

Bulawayo City and Whawha join Cranborne Bullets as the teams that are heading into the PSL next season while champions for the Eastern Region will only be known this afternoon. Tenax and Buffaloes are fighting for promotion in the Eastern Region.
