Fokoza Foundation promises more tournaments for girls
THE Fortune Fokoza Foundation has pledged to offer more support to the girl child in the upcoming year.
Largely known for organising boys soccer tournaments, this year saw Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube, a former premier league player staging an inaugural girls tournament that put into motion his vision and support for the girl child.
The foundation, having noticed a considerable oversight with regards to girls soccer, has cast its eyes towards cementing its relationship with the girl child by promising more tournaments for females.
“I have seen that we tend to forget the girl child and focus more on the boys, it’s time I am thinking the same thing that we do for the boys is the same thing we should do for the girl child and as for next season the same planning for the boys will be the same planning for the girls,” said Ncube.
“We want girls soccer to be more valued and our vision is to see girls soccer reach another level and possibly have more corporate world pouring in to support girls soccer.’’
With this vision the Fokoza Foundation has managed to get the buy in of a noteworthy well-wisher in the form of United Kingdombased former Masvingo United and Highlanders player Douglas Zimbango and friend Memory Ngwenya.
Zimbango believes its time for the girl child to get the support they need and show what they can do.
“We want the girl child to be independent, not all of them can work in offices, some of them are talented on the pitch, they need to prove and remove the notion that football is a man’s game, we’ve got the talent in Zimbabwe, we’ve got the girls that have the passion but lack support and we want to give them that support,” said Zimbango.
