Netball Champion of Champions to start new season
NETBALL lovers are in for an early treat with the Rainbow Amateur National Netball League to start the year with a Champion of Champions Cup set for February.
The Champion of Champions Cup will be a belated birthday celebration of Glow Petroleum who are the sponsors of the upcoming 2020 National Netball League season.
Glow Petroleum recently unveiled a sponsorship package of $11 million for the upcoming netball season in an award ceremony held in Harare.
Secretary-general of the league Moses Gukurume said preparations were in full swing to stage the competition.
“Basically, we are planning to make it a format whereby the southern region and the northern region select players from their regions then they play against each other,” he said.
“We have managed to say that administrators in the regions should select their own coach and those who select players must have done so by the end of January.”
The venue for the competition is yet to be decided with the co-ordinators hoping to make the competition a bigger showpiece that will attract more people.
“We are looking for a central place where we can stage the match, we want to involve as much people as possible so that it is watched by many people from those supporting the southern region and those supporting the northern region.”
In making the competition as inclusive as it can be the selectors will widen their net even to players playing in other smaller leagues.
