Woman seeks aid for CT scan

- Robin Muchetu Senior Reporter

A 36-YEAR-OLD Silobela woman, Ms Fadzai Mahara is seeking assistance to undergo a CT scan on her right knee which developed a large growth which has been troubling her for sometime.

Ms Mahara, a mother of three said the problem started in 2000.

“This challenge started in 2000, my leg was just painful around the knee and then slowly it began to swell. The situation got worse in 2019 when it suddenly increased in swelling while I was pregnant with my third child.

I have been to Gweru Provincial Hospital for assistance and I was told there is a lump growing on the knee after an X-ray was done.

The doctors said they did not know what was causing the swelling but recommended that I get the leg operated on to remove the growth,” she said.

She is asking for US$200 to undergo a CT scan in Bulawayo.

“I do not have the money as I am unemployed and my husband also does not work. We live in Silobela with our children and the going is tough. I was told I need to go for an operation at Gweru Provincial Hospital and they pegged it at $36 000 last year.

The doctors I have visited in Bulawayo have not given me the cost for the operation as they said I need to do a scan first to determine what the problem could be,” she said.

Ms Mahara said she has not been able to do any household duties because she cannot walk. She also cannot care for her young child. Ms Mahara said she is in constant pain because of the tumour and does not have any medication to manage the pain.

The child is being looked after by her husband.

Her uncle Mr Joseph Hove who is taking care of her in Bulawayo said they were hopeful she will get assistance.

“Doctors warn that because the growth on the knee is spreading it could affect vital veins and prevent the operation and might lead to amputation of the leg. This will cause more challenges for her. I am kindly asking if she could get help,” he said.

Those who can assist can contact Mr Hove on 0773585596 or Mrs Elizabeth Hove on 0778054603.
