New dispensation doing much better: VP Mohadi
VICE-President Kembo Mohadi has said the new dispensation has scored more achievements in the few years of its existence in terms of development compared to the previous dispensation.
Addressing the Matabeleland South Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) in Gwanda Town yesterday, VP Mohadi said they had since recorded a number of milestones through the astute guidance of President Mnangagwa.
“We have done what the first dispensation did not achieve. The Beitbridge-Masvingo Road, HarareChirundu Road were done by the new dispensation. In Chimanimani where Cyclone Idai wreaked havoc and killed many people, new road networks have been constructed, new schools and housing units have been put up.
“Agricultural produce can now be taken to markets, and we used our own resources and local expertise. When Covid-19 struck the West projected that 1 million people would have died by June because we do not have resources but currently, we have 8 000 cases and 6 900 recoveries,” said VP Mohadi.
The Vice-President took a swipe at individuals within the ruling Zanu-PF who were using unscrupulous means to get into the party for selfish reasons, which he noted was putting the party in the wrong light.
“When I was injured during the 2018 blast at White City Stadium, people took the advantage of my incapacitation to use money to buy their way into the party. Now we have people who do not know what Zanu-PF stands for because they were not groomed by the party,” he added.
VP Mohadi said the country is reeling under the effects of a three-year successive droughts but the Government has made sure no one dies of hunger.
“The Government is talking of Vision 2030, where we are saying we should have attained an upper middle-class economy by 2030, this is something which we are focused on and should ensure that we achieve come 2030.
“However, today I want to talk of Vision 2023, where we are targeting 5 million votes as a party. For us to get that figure we need to know how many cells and districts we have,” said the Vice-President.
Meanwhile, during the meeting Insiza district filed a complaint relating to the alleged barring of members to take part in the District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC). The party has embarked on an exercise to elect DCC members, with interested members submitting their CVs for verification by the party’s national commissariat. According to party members they have been attempts to bar a number of potential voters from participating in the elections in Insiza.
