YOUR story on a 14-year-old boy who was being sexually abused by a 20-yearold woman refers. Whether the boy consented or not is the point. This is a case of a child being tricked by an adult into being intimate. According to the laws of the land, anyone under the age of 18 is incapable of consenting to sex, hence it is termed rape in the case of a girl, while it is improper sexual conduct with a minor when it comes to boys. Imagine if your 14-year-old daughter is tricked in the same way by a 21-year-old let alone a 40-year-old man, how would you feel? Gender doesn’t determine rape!

Khama Billiat did well. Unfortunately, he failed to score, but we acknowledge the effort and can only wish him well in the next game. Let’s all support him for the effort. Even legends, at times fail to score. I am optimistic he will score against Senegal. — Tatenda Mpofu, Gweru.

The biggest problem with the city council is that they like to set goals they do not follow up on. The city poor drainage system, sewer blockages, no refuse collection in some areas are evidence of their permanent incompetence and have since caused the outbreak of typhoid. City council should provide safe water and sanitary facilities to its citizens. — Tafadzwa Makone, Ruwa.

*** May the Chief Justice have a restful and enjoyable retirement. To me, he is a bold, firm and astute man who stands by his decisions. His judicial take on the land issue is revolutionary. I only hope that his successor will also appreciate the main reasons why the people waged the war of liberation. — Zorodzai Mashe, Harare.
