THE Zimbabwe Olympic Committee have joined the local sporting fraternity in mourning veteran sports administrator, Margret Mswazi, who died in Harare on Sunday.

Mswazi died at AMI hospital in Avondale, after battling anaemia for some time. She was 62.

Mswazi served as ZOC Academy director between 2008 and 2010.

She was one of the directors for the Advanced Sports Management Course run by ZOC after she attended training in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2015.

“The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee is deeply saddened by the passing on of Mrs Tinny Margret Mswazi. She was a veteran sports administrator who served as the Zimbabwe Olympic Academy Director between 2008 and 2010. She was also one of the Directors for the Advanced Sports Management Course, a flagship diploma programme run by ZOC.

“This is a great loss to sport and above all to her family.

“May our Lord bless and comfort her family, friends and colleagues during this time of grief,” ZOC said in a statement.

Former ZOC board member, Titus Zvomuya, who worked with Mswazi at the Olympic body and other institutions, including at the Zimbabwe Open University, paid tribute the seasoned administrator who was also an athletes educator.

“It’s a very sad development in the sporting fraternity. I first knew her when we trained together as teachers at Mutare Teachers’ College. She is one person who was extremely passionate about sport. She was committed and dedicated to her work, especially in areas of physical education and sport” said Zvomuya.

Her son, Anesu, said his mother had not been well for quite some time.

“She had been sick for about two years. She was very caring and loving as a mother, sister, cousin, everyone speaks highly of her. She was one of the strongest people I know,” said Anesu.

Mswazi will be buried today in Mutare. She is survived by three children and two grandchildren.
