Command Agriculture naysayers humbled

-

EDITOR — The heavens seem to have answered Zimbabwe’s prayers for a favourable harvest as the rains have been pouring down consistently over the past weeks.

This conveniently coincides with the Command Agriculture efforts which are aimed at addressing persistent food shortages.

Critics of the programme raised questions on the unreliability of rains and equated the exercise to a waste of resources.

I wonder how the naysayers feel now that the rains are available in abundance, exceeding projected figures. Government should be applauded for making calculated moves which are on course to have tangible fruits, literally.

Command Agriculture is one of the best ini- tiatives ever launched in Zimbabwe and the way nature is responding, food security concerns will soon be a thing of the past.

Truth is, the breadbasket of Africa talk has been made a chorus by opposition characters and pressure groups, but now they will have one less thing to sing about.

Locally, we have pseudo-analysts who have been finding everything wrong with Government policy, but fail to appreciate the good things it does.

Their Western-sponsored platforms thrive on their continued negative energy, but that does not reflect the views of Zimbabweans in any way.

Farmers across the country are heaping words of praise on the Government for assisting them

with inputs this farming season.

Inputs have been difficult to source for most farmers since banks have been too stringent in their loan disbursement. The Zimbabwean agricultural landscape has not had a hands-on programme of this nature in a couple of years.

This will appear as a magic shot to local food prospects since there is monitoring and expert advice at the farmers’ disposal.

We applaud the Government for Command Agriculture. Those who predicted failure must be wallowing in shame since the rains have descended upon on us.
