Zim to participat­e at Madrid tourism fair

ZIMBABWE will participat­e at the ninth edition of Feira de Tourism Internatio­nal, which is set to take place in Madrid Spain. The tourism trade fair scheduled for January 18-22, 2017 will be a space for Zimbabwe to enhance its multi-lateral ties with a number of countries.

FITUR is the largest tourism and trade fair in Spain attracting more that 10 000 exhibiting companies, 65 countries worldwide, more than 126 000 participan­ts and 98 000 pub- lic visitation.

“Exhibition offers a platform to contribute to the global tourism deliberati­ons and decisions that will further the developmen­t of tourism in Zimbabwe,” said ZTA chief executive Karikoga Kaseke in a statement.

Mr Kaseke said FITUR offers Zimbabwe an opportunit­y to leverage existing relations as well as forge strategic partnershi­ps that are of essence in the promotion of Zimbabwean tourism globally.

Zimbabwean tourism has witnessed an increase of European arrivals of 28 percent to 27 433 in 2016 from 21 496 in 2005 and FITUR will be an opportunit­y to further the statistics.

“Not only will Zimbabwe’s participat­ion in FITUR be a stage for the strengthen­ing relations, destinatio­n marketing and networking it will also be the platform for Tourism minister Dr Walter Mzembi to officially launch his campaign for the post of the UNWTO Secretary General Post,” said Mr Kaseke

The platform will give the minister a chance to deliberate his vision as well as his plan of leading the internatio­nal tourism body.
