Rankings will inspire Dynamos
EDITOR — Some critics say the ranking system used by Fifa, Caf and other football governing bodies to rate teams according to strength and superiority is a complete joke.
There is, however, a certain degree of truth attached to such claims mainly due to the fact that a team below the rankings list can upset a team rated above it especially at major tournaments.
Universally soccer rankings do not give a fair added advantage to any team except at major tournaments when the system is used to avoid pairing teams of equally same strength and seeding.
It is important to note that rankings are a strong sign of a team’s strength based on past and present form, which might be to the advantage of the opponent in terms of preparations.
Dynamos achieved so much at home besides doing well in the African safari when the team represented Zimbabwe in tournaments like the Caf Champions League.
DeMbare reached the finals of the tournament besides making it to the mini-league phase of the Caf Champions League which makes the club deserve to be ranked as the best football club in the region.
The latest ranking list gives us hope and a new lease of life. Being ranked 12th best team in Africa was not a joke.
So to ignore or criticise the ranking criteria is not recommended. We hope Dynamos’ status lasts for long and will inspire the Glamour Boys to rediscover the lost magic and pride.
