Bikita West poll shows Zanu-PF’s might

-

EDITOR — I am glad that the people’s party, Zanu-PF, showed its political ingenuity when it humbled all opposition candidates in the Bikita West by-election.

The hyped Kudakwashe Gopo of Zimbabwe People First received his party’s maiden electoral defeat.

This could be an ominous sign to his party as there is an adage which says, “First cut is the deepest”.

His paltry number of votes against Cde Beauty Chabaya showed how much unpopular his party is. In all honesty, calling it a contest would be an insult to Chabaya’s victory.

I hope Bikita West silences the zealots who have been making coalition noises in recent days.

If one was to aggregate the votes garnered by those opposition actors they would still fail to get to half the numbers garnered by Zanu-PF.

These are the same people who believe they can converge to depose the revolutionary party, such hallucinating should not be encouraged.

Cde (Ignatius) Chombo is right, with this momentum Zanu-PF cannot afford to continue with petty fights.

Zanu-PF is stronger when there is unity of purpose and Bikita West just played testament.

His sentiments on service delivery also hit the spot.

Zanu-PF, which is in power, should put more effort to provide the people with quality leadership and solutions.

Command Agriculture is an example of a wellplaced initiative which will have a massive impact on the nation’s food security.

Every Ministry should come up with at least one practical turnaround idea before the 2018 election.

If we finish our mandate on a high, people will not have any trouble choosing between an innovative Zanu-PF and confused opposition parties.

Another reason why I am celebrating the Bikita West victory is that Mai Mujuru has been put in her place.

When she was going around granting South African media interviews gloating about her “prowess”, she had forgotten that the reason why people paid attention to her was because of Zanu-PF.

Gopo’s monumental loss will serve as a wake-up call to Dr Mujuru and members of her political outfit.

Winning an election is not easy, it is unfortunate that some had to learn the hard way. Lawrence Chirimauta, Harare.
