All set for Yadah trials

- Sports Reporter

SCORES of ambitious football stars, including those as young as five, are expected to converge at the Yadah Complex in Waterfalls this morning to undergo trials as part of an ambitious programme which Prophet Walter Magaya says could be a game-changer in the national game.

The trials are for boys and girls while seasoned players who feel they could be part of this ambitious project, have been invited.

Magaya owns Yadah Stars who were promoted into the domestic Premiership after winning the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One championship in their first year in the league.

But the football-mad prophet is not only content with having a club playing in the country’s top-flight league, but wants to create a longterm project that will run along the lines of the school of excellency run by Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas.

The Mimosas, who beat Dyna- mos to win the CAF Champions League title in 1998, have a model project that has produced some of the best African players to grace European football, including the Toure brothers — Yaya and Kolo.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya is one of the best paid players in the world, earning an estimated more than $300 000 a week and captained his country to success at the Nations Cup finals in 2015.

“It’s all about investment into the junior football structures and that is what we are looking to do at Yadah Stars and that means we want to tap talent that is as young as five-years-old, as long as they show the promise that they can be turned into very good players at a later stage and capture them when they are still young,” said Magaya.

Yadah Stars are set to use Chibuku Stadium in Chitungwiza as their home ground.

They will renovate the stadium which was once the home of Darryn T.
