Porter lifts squash title
ETHAN Porter is the 2017 Mashonaland Junior Squash Championships boys Under-19 champion.
The 18-year-old emerged as the top dog at the three-day tournament when he beat Taine Turnock 3-0 in the final at Belgravia Sports Club in Harare over the weekend.
Third place went to Tino Kuipa, who beat Tino Maswi 3-1 in the third place playoff. Polite Mubure took the first prize in the girls Under-19 section after beating Hannah Mannion 3-0, while Vivyn O’Donovan settled for third place.
After losing to Porter in the boys’ Under19 final, Turnock redeemed himself when he lifted the boys’ Under-16 crown by beating Aeden Martin 3-0 in the final. Taurai Tugwete came third in the boys’ Under16 section.
In the girls Under-16 final, Mannion beat Aitashe Kainga 3-0, while Tafadzwa Machuno settled for third place.
First place in the boys’ Under-14 went to Muzuvu Gutu, who beat Brian Bennett 3-0 in the final while the gold medal in the girls section went to Kaitlin Craven after she accounted for Langa Manyika 3-0 in the final.
Sean Bennett did well to take first place in boys Under-11 age-group after beating Nicholas Anderson 3-2 in the final while third place went to Travis da Silva.
Raif Jinnah beat Isaac Hildebrand 3-0 in the final of the Under-9s.
Nicolas Paul also took first prize in the boys Under-13 class while Daniel Bezuidenhout and Rukudzo Midzi took second and third places.
Founder and director of the Zimbabwe Squash Academy Trust, Mashumba Mukumba, said the event was a success.
