Zifa’s HPC needs better composition

-

EDITOR — Chiyangwa (Philip) says Pasuwa (Callisto) will go by the recommendations of the High Performance Committee, but looking at the composition of the group, it’s worrying.

The committee has characters like Chihowa, Chogugudza and coaches who have not achieved much with the national team or even in the Caf Champion’s League.

This committee is dominated by ambitious coaches, which is a cause for concern.

People like Rush (Rahman Gumbo), Mangwiro (Taurai) and Chunga (Moses) are still harbouring ambitions to coach the national team so their opinion may be biased or conflicted.

Before someone can sit in this committee, they must have coached at national level and not be eligible for selection.

People in this committee must be very seasoned, qualified and experienced coaches with a proven track record.

Sunday Chidzambwa qualifies, but to leave out Charles Mhlauri is irrational. Other members should be retired coaches such as Barry Daka, if he is indeed retired and the likes of Roy Barreto and Sherpad Murape.

Apart from the whole thing being a circus, I also believe at this moment it’s very unfair on Pasuwa.

They thrust him into the deep end believing he can perform miracles.

I am afraid he was nowhere near the requirement for a national coach.

The fact that he won four consecutive league championships with Dynamos did not make him a qualified person at national level.

The fact that he qualified with probably weakest group should not have gotten people overexcited.

Pasuwa can be a good coach. He is still young, but don’t destroy his career due to your myopic thinking.

At AFCON 2017, he was one of the youngest and least experienced. Takudzwa Ndaba, Marondera.
