Coalition of failures doomed to fail

-

EDITOR — I find it hilarious that MDC-T would set any terms for Joice Mujuru to join them in a coalition.

It is clear that the former vice president is a finished and inept politician. The only thing that can come from such a union is further embarrassment for Tsvangirai and his cohort.

I suppose Tsvangirai has realised that he is also out of options as he continues to suffer defeat in elections against President Mugabe. After a poor showing in Bikita West, the Zimbabwe People First is certainly cut from the same loser-cloth as MDC-T and all its other breakaway factions.

Now ZimPF has its own breakaway faction or, rather, there are squabbles over who the real ZimPF is. All the opposition seems to do is copy each other. So perhaps Mujuru would fit right in with Tsvangirai in a coalition of failures.

Mujuru has no constituency and no support structures. It would be folly for Tsvangirai to think that a coalition with her would be beneficial in any form.

In fact, I predict that a coalition with Mujuru will only serve to cause more fissures in the MDC-T.

I do not think the likes of Thokozani Khupe or Nelson Chamisa or the third vice president of MDC-T, Elias Mudzuri, are pleased at the prospect of Mujuru joining their fold.

With only two vice president posts available nationally and four possible contenders for the spot, it certainly doesn’t weigh in Khupe and company’s favour to support any coalition.

Mujuru also has nothing to offer the coalition. What is she bringing to the table besides claims of having Zanu-PF rural supporters? Now that she has thrown out a massive contingent of her executive, whatever support she had has surely waned.

Bikita West also proved her false claims of having support in the rural areas as she was summarily thumped by Zanu-PF.

Whatever makeshift arrangement comes of the has-beens of MDC-T and ZimPF will leave its leaders in tears come 2018. Tatenda Banda, Gweru.
