HAPPY birthday President Mugabe. May the good Lord continue giving you wisdom to guide and protect this country. — Cde Muponda.
*** Today is February 21 and I join millions of Zimbabweans in congratulating President Mugabe. Happy birthday our beloved President, father figure and leader. May God bless you and your family. — Johannes, Gweru.
*** I write to implore the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to do investigations in all Government and mission schools that have come up with fundraising mechanisms in which they charge between $300 and $325 for two pairs of uniforms plus a tracksuit. Certainly this is daylight robbery. How can someone justify such thieving behaviour? The headmasters have the audacity to accuse parents of being inquisitive and threaten us with expulsion of our children. Who gave them such powers? May the powers that be act now? — Concerned parent, Tozvireva.
*** Your story yesterday on Irvine’s and the chicken industry refers. The potential for the chicken industry is enormous. All impediments to it must be removed without delay, especially export permits and the high peg on the price of maize.
The permits must be replaced by quality audits and ISO certification, both aimed at upholding standards in poultry raising practices. If need be, the responsible ministry can place an inspector on site at its cost. The potential for poultry exports is significant. South Africa is buying chickens from as far afield as the US, Europe and Brazil. Besides, as said before, we need “a chicken a day in every pot and an egg a day for every child”.
*** When will City of Harare start resurfacing roads? Roads, especially in high-density suburbs, are impassable. Rains have made the situation worse. Please start construction of the concrete roads. — Mai Ruva, Warren Park 1.
