IT is good to hear that men now have courage to report wives who beat them up. Men have been suffering in silence while being physically abused by their spouses. It used to be a disgrace for a man to report that he was being abused by his wife. It is now good to hear that men are coming out of the shell and reporting abuse. I believe there are men who go to police stations crying in pain after a beating. It’s unfortunate that some police officers laugh at men who report abusive wives. There is need to protect men from abusive wives. I urge men to report wives who beat them up. — Lawrence Moyo, Hwange.

*** Your sister paper, The Sunday Mail, carried a story in which a company called Univern is to install boreholes and solar power at 2 500 schools for the princely sum of $100 million or $40 000 per school. That sounds steep. Was the tender awarded according to the law after a public call for bids? Who is paying the money if it was not in the national Budget’s Public Service Investment Programme? Could ZACC sniff around? The same company seems to have won a huge tender with the police for a worthwhile modernisation venture. Were proper, ethical and transparent processes followed in the contracting of its services? — Chirorodziva, Harare.

*** As worshippers stream into church for the Sunday service, the pastor’s eyes are “intent” on the quality and quantity of people coming in. The bigger the number and elegantly dressed are the worshippers, the better are chances for generous collections. Clergy of the calibre of Apostle Paul and Silas are now an endangered species, in their place are extortionists and religious fraudsters. The King of Kings lived a humble life, chariots were there, but he chose to ride on a donkey. If the calling is not in you ,then leave God’s people alone. Where offerings are given voluntarily from the heart, huge amounts are collected. Preachers and pastors must not force people to finance their lavish lifestyles. Preach the word and worshippers will give in abundance. — Thomas Murisa, Harare.

*** We wish Charles Manyuchi the best in raising the Zimbabwe flag very high. Putting Zimbabwe on the world map in any discipline is a challenge for all Zimbabweans. — Kunta Kinte, Harare.
