Ex-Tongaat boss donates to Chiredzi

FORMER Tongaat Hullets agriculture director Cde Farai Msikavanhu has availed $150 000 towards the development and improvement of key service facilities in Chiredzi, a development that will help council recover from its pressing responsibilities.

Several projects that will change the face of Chiredzi are already being undertaken by the town council using the funds donated by Cde Msikavanhu.

Chiredzi Town Council chairman Councillor Francis Moyo said Mr Msikavanhu engaged council and residents to establish the priority areas on which he could bail out council this year with his fund.

“We are gratified as council that one of our residents (Cde Msikavanhu) has remembered us by availing $150 000 that is already under use at various projects in our area,” he said.

“The fund targets the establishment of a maternity ward at our polyclinic, facelift our District Heroes Acre, while construction of classroom blocks at Batanai and Kushinga Primary schools is already underway.

“A free WIFI zone will be set and the re-establishment of recreational facilities at all open spaces will be reintroduced, while Tshovani Stadium will get a facelift to meet modern standards.”

Cde Msikavanhu last year retired from the country’s sole sugar producer after serving for 31 years, but is now active in ZANU-PF, as he has keen interest in seeking election for a provincial post in the party.

His help comes at a time when residents of Chiredzi have been complaining mainly about the depletion of services at Chiredzi General Hospital, especially at the maternity ward where pregnant woman would be forced to sleep on the floor due to shortage of beds.
