Kasukuwere must behave, respect media

-

EDITOR — Zanu-PF national secretary for the Commissariat Cde Saviour Kasukuwere last week launched a diatribe against journalists at The Herald in a clear sign of intimidation.

That seems to be his modus operandi, trying to intimidate anyone who goes against his wishes. It brings under scrutiny the type of leader he is. Is he a leader who is immune to criticism? That is quite dangerous for one aspiring to lead the nation. His anger against Herald journalists is unwarranted and uncalled for, unless he has something to hide.

If he was not involved in sabotaging the marches against Cdes Eunice Sandi Moyo and Sarah Mahoka, then why is he livid?

The Herald must have touched a raw nerve and usually, a person who tries to silence the media has something to hide. For a person of his standing, exuding ignorance in public is not an acceptable virtue.

The media is there to act as a watchdog over the behaviour of leaders in relation to how it affects the public. With this in mind, when The Herald reported on the alleged plans to derail demonstrations within Zanu-PF, it was looking out for the Women’s League members who no longer want Cdes Sandi Moyo and Mahoka to be part of their leadership.

The media does not exist to serve a few individuals, but to capture and convey events as they happen.

It is sad that, with his position in Government and ruling party, Kasukuwere used unprintable words to insult a professional journalist who was simply doing his job. What is wrong with the new crop of politicians?

Kasukuwere should be an exemplary leader who guides other young leaders to engage in dialogue before resorting to violence.

The Local Government, National Housing and Public Works minister is a person who is supposed to preach unity in his party considering his position as head of the commissariat department at Zanu-PF.

His outbursts do not show any signs of a unifying or peaceful individual.

We expect better from Cde Kasukuwere. He should let the media do its job while he focuses on his. Nothando Dube, Via e-mail.
