Western guided methods not meant for us

EDITOR — The article “The downfall of Thabo: The hidden truth” refers!

The greatest tragedy among us is the so-called educated Black Africa.

We have blind faith in the facade that comes in the form of half-backed democratic experiments we see all over the continent.

Such methods tend to backfire especially when they are forced upon nations.

We have perfected the art of compliance with ideas and concepts that do not address the fundamentals of our existence.

It’s time we focus on ideas which suit our needs as a continent.

If we are focused enough, Zimbabwe will be a success story.

Without a collective effort to economically empower Africa’s own disadvantaged, and undo colonial education, the road to economic emancipation will remain a pipe dream at best and a very corrosive illusion at worst.

The former colonisers are not resting on their laurels.

As for Zimbabwe, we do not need anyone telling us what it means to suffer as a result of any attempt to transform the socio-economic order imposed by former colonial powers. We have lived through it. My sincere hope is we all have learnt very good lessons, which by the way, have hardened us and made us a more resilient lot.

Soon, we will be a shining example of what it means to persevere under the harshest blows traded by the neo-liberal merchants, and come out a more determined lot.

Sadly, it’s the same painful route that the whole of Africa should be willing, ready and able to travel if real independence is to mean something for us as a continent!
