The value of role models

- Titus 2 vs 6-7; “Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility.”

A WEEK ago, I was invited to speak at a boy’s school. This was new territory for me because I usually speak to older audiences so I asked a friend of mine to advise me on an appropriate topic.

He suggested that I speak about role models and emphasise on their importance in a society where many have lost their sense of being.

As I thought back on my interaction with the boys it got me thinking that even older people are sometimes led astray by the company they keep. Many people seek affirmation from others and they end up losing the very essence of who they are in an effort to fit in and to be loved by peers.

We often throw away the salt of who we are for earthy praise. We are all called to minister, lead, encourage and to guide others in the right direction. Many a life and a soul has been lost through the pursuit of foreign habits and customs that we choose to copy from others.

Our calling is to be the light of the earth and therefore we are implored to be good spiritual role models for those in our midst.

Have you departed from who you are meant to be?

Seek the Lord and as you do may you be a great role model for those searching for Him.

Liberate the souls that have been entrusted to you by showing and leading them to the true God of heaven through your actions. Be blessed. REFLECTIONS OF A WORK IN PROGRESS ...
