SALISBURY, 24 April 1942. — “That the price of maize is inadequate, and not conducive to increasing production or attaining the self-sufficiency of the country,” was a resolution passed by the Hartley Farmers’ Association at a meeting held at the Hartley Hotel on Thursday, April 16.

Mr Johnstone stated that in his opinion the farmer did not want increased price from motive of profit, but rather so as to be able to fulfil every farmer’s ideal of a farm in high fertility, meat and efficient farm buildings, and stock in good order.

A report from the committee delegated to go into the matter of weekend hunters and poaching and trespass generally was read. Several recommendations were made with regard to the exchange of laws, such as de facto conviction of any person in possession of firearms trespassing, unless proved unintentional.

Another recommendation was that permission to hunt on unoccupied land should have to be obtained from the Police.
