Let’s continue to empower women
EDITOR — Zimbabwe has lately been moving in the right direction when it comes to women empowerment.
It is impressive to note that our youth are following in the footsteps of our leaders and realising that women need to be empowered.
AAG president Chamu Chiwanza should be applauded for doing his best to contribute towards this cause. When women are given leadership roles, research suggests they put important, but otherwise neglected issues on the table. That can have a significant trickle-down effect, benefiting women from all walks of life.
The hard work done by Zimbabwean women everyday should not be ignored.
They should be empowered more so that they can drive and contribute sustainably to the development of this country.
People like Chamu Chiwanza should also be encouraged to show other men that there are more benefits when it comes to investing in women. Women make up 43 percent of the agriculture labour force.
However, women are less likely to own land, and own less when they do. When women have the same amount of land as men, there is over 10 percent increase in crop yield.
If organisations like the AAG continue to empower women, giving them the opportunity to lead, then we have higher chances of developing faster.
