Helping the needy

-

Deuteronomy 15 vs 11; “For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying ‘You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land’.”

POVERTY and deprivation are some of the biggest challenges we face in the world. The images of skinny starving children, looking miserable has become the norm in the media.

The question that we all ask is; why does it have to be so, is there no other way? Though the Lord has said there will be poor people among us, we are all called to make the world a slightly better place for the next person. Our prayers speak of our individual needs, the things we desire and the things we want. However, we are required to offer supplications on behalf of those who are lacking.

In our lifetime we may not be able to eradicate poverty and its ravaging effects, but we have a small part to play in ensuring that the next person is slightly better off than they were.

Take time to not only pray for others, but make an active effort to live out your Christian values to a point where they are felt where they are most needed.

The Good Samaritan, when confronted with a situation that required action, made every effort to ensure that the traveller was taken care of.

Although we all have pressing commitments that take up our time and resources, let us let the Lord in us shine through and make the world a better place. Do something for someone today. Be blessed.
