SALISBURY, 28 June 1942. — The Salisbury City Council is to buy three buses from the Government for a total of £1 475 and an additional £500 has been voted for additions and alterations to them.
This was decided at the Council meeting on Thursday. The consent of the Government will have to be obtained.
Mr N St. Quintin said these buses were not up to the standard of that obtained from Gwelo for £1 500, but they were something, and additions could be made to them. He thought good use could be made of them for carrying passengers.
The City Council is endeavouring to obtain captured Italian buses from the military authorities in Kenya and will also approach the United States Economic Mission in Southern Africa to speed up the delivery of eight buses on Order from America.
Mr C Oiley said that the roofs of the buses were too low and the public would complain. He did not think they would be patronised much.
