HARARE, 28 June 1992. — High quality products have already been successfully processed at the new $120 million Dairy Marketing Board powdered-milk factory in Chitungwiza, which is currently undergoing product trials and performance testing.
DMB chief executive Mr Misheck Nyamupingidza said in a statement at the weekend the testing of the wide range of new and sophisticated machinery was progressing well.
However, a few problems had been encountered with some machinery operations, but necessary replacements had been made.
The factory, which was scheduled to have been completed three years ago to help end spilling of surplus milk, will be commissioned once the trials are complete.
The product trials and performance testing, which has to satisfy pre-set standards, involved checking of the intake, storage, pasteurisation, milk separation, powder processing and butter making.
When commissioned, the factory, is capable of processing 300 000 litres of milk a day into butter and powdered milk.
