BULAWAYO, 30 June 1917. — A meeting of the Rhodesia’s Munitions and Resources Committee was held in the Town House, Bulawayo, on Tuesday Mr J G McDonald in the chair. There was a good attendance of members.
The Chairman, who has just returned from the Conference of the Scientific and Technical Government Committee of the Union, held in Johannesburg, on July 10th, gave a short summary of the history of the committee.
Dealing with the conference, the Chairman and that the following matters were fully discussed during the session: Natural resources, industrial alcohol, fertiliser, economic plants and suitable for South Africa and kelps and other sources of potash.
Scientific equipment and staff in the Union, institution and acceleration of certain surveys, statistics, industrial museum, publication by Department of Agriculture of popular articles, suggested appointment of maize expert and question of soil survey.
