. . . set to deploy Politburo members

- Felex Share and Nyemudzai Kakore

ZANU-PF has stepped up preparations for next year’s harmonised elections and will next week deploy Politburo members to all the 10 provinces to launch the revolutionary party’s voter mobilisation and registration exercise.

The exercise will be launched during inter-district meetings to be held on July 22 and 23.

The senior Politburo members will be assisted by Zanu-PF staff members in executing their mandate.

This emerged from a meeting Zanu-PF secretary for administration Cde Ignatius Chombo had with provincial chairpersons, commissars and secretaries for administration in Harare yesterday.

Cadres in charge of transport and social welfare in various provinces were also part of the meeting.

Cdes Kembo Mohadi, Sithembiso Nyoni and Munyaradzi Machacha will be in Manicaland, while in Bulawayo the meetings will be overseen by Cdes Chombo, David Parirenyatwa and Kizito Kuchekwa.

Harare inter-district meeting will be presided over by Cdes Sydney Sekeramayi, Saviour Kasukuwere and Mayihlome, Mashonaland East (Cdes Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, Shuvai Mahofa and Dickson Dzora), Mashonaland Central (Cdes Josaya Hungwe, Kudzanayi Chipanga and Steven Chidawanyika), Masvingo (Cdes Thokozile Mathuthu, Joshua Malinga and Ezekiel Zabanyana) and Midlands (Cdes Patrick Chinamasa, Cain Mathema and Mandeya). Cdes Obert Mpofu, Mike Bimha and Gadzira Chirumanzu will be in Mashonaland West, while Cdes Prisca Mupfumira, Jonathan Moyo and Florence Gwazemba will be in Matabeleland South.

Matabeleland North meetings will be overseen by Cdes Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Jorum Gumbo and Berejena.

Addressing yesterday’s meeting, Cde Chombo said there was need for the provincial leaders to be disciplined.

“It is from your discipline and organisation that your provinces shape up and tow the party line,” he said.

“It is from your discipline and organisation that cadres can emulate and become well-rounded members of the party.

“I do emphasise again that as provincial leaders, you are also torch bearers of the party and you should thus show a high level of discipline and organisational skills.”

Cde Chombo said a lot of resources which were being mobilised by Zanu-PF ahead of the elections needed accountability.

“The resources will include fuel, regalia and vehicles, amongst others,” he said.

“It is your duty as provincial leaders to be sure that these items are properly accounted for and handled in a responsible and transparent manner.

“You have started receiving brand new vehicles. These have been acquired at great cost and I cannot over emphasise the need to use them responsibly. The department of transport and social welfare will give you details on how to manage this new fleet.”

Cde Chombo said effective communication and “immaculate” record keeping were the backbone of the party.

“Let us follow proper channels, especially when dealing with disciplinary cases,” he said.

“The department of legal affairs issued a circular last year on how to handle disciplinary cases.

“All outstanding disciplinary cases should be dealt with as a matter of urgency. Let’s familiarise ourselves with the circular and be guided accordingly.”

Cde Chombo said provincial leaders were expected to design programmes to mobilise people.

Said Cde Chombo: “Your programmes should be designed in consultation with the national commissariat department.

“These programmes should be time-based and have a budget to allow for the timeous release of resources. These action programmes are strategic if we are to win the 2018 elections.”

Cde Chombo said to mobilise more people, provinces should take advantage of the ongoing Presidential Youth Interface meetings.

He said the 17th Zanu-PF National People’s Conference would be held in Gwanda, Matabeleland South.

“As usual, all provinces are supposed to assist in resource mobilisation so that as always this event is a success,” he said.

“May you trigger all the various systems, so that the party machinery starts working.

“2018 is here, for it is now that elections are won. For it is in the planning and preparation that the election is won.

“Whatever we do from now, let us always think 2018 elections and victory.”
