Chawapiwa closes in on SA move

- Grace Chingoma Senior Sports Reporter

WARRIORS midfielder Talent Chawapiwa was yesterday close to sealing a move to South African Premiership club Baroka FC after charming the club at the just-ended COSAFA Castle Cup tournament.

Critics will argue it’s a move backwards for one of the country’s best football talents given he would be moving to a side which barely survived in the ABSA Premiership.

The exciting winger had a stellar show in the national team colours and was the outstanding player in the final against Zambia where he scored a beauty and created another goal for Ocean Mushure.

The Herald is reliably informed that the FC Platinum star could move to Baroka FC with negotiations expected to be concluded soon.

However, the Zvishavane side spokesperson Chido Chizondo yesterday professed ignorance over the imminent move.

“We are yet to receive any offers, but as a club our position is that we engage any club interested in him, sit down and then negotiate,’’ she said.

“There is nothing official although we have had through the grapevine that Baroka are interested. We will be in a position to comment once we receive official communication from any club.”

More Warriors from the triumphant squad are expected to get offers from clubs across the Limpopo following outstanding performances in the six matches Zimbabwe played before they lifted a record fifth COSAFA Castle Cup title.

There has been enquiries from big South African clubs over the availability of AmaZulu midfielder Ovidy Karuru and Dynamos captain Ocean Mushure.
