ZIMBABWE’S second largest mobile network operator by subscriber numbers, NetOne, is set to embark on new investment initiatives running into hundreds of millions of dollars upon completion of its $219 million network expansion project.

NetOne acting chef executive officer Mr Brian Mutandiro said the expansion project is 98 percent complete and will usher in another phase of improving the network’s capacity.

“NetOne has almost completed rolling its network expansion project (98 percent). The project rolled out voice and data services riding on high speed 3G and ultra high-speed 4G platforms to all provinces of the country,” said Mr Mutandiro.

“NetOne is now mopping up the project and laying the ground for the imminent next phase which will come with enhanced platforms,” Mr Mutandiro added.

The network rollout, according to Mr Mutandiro, has impacted positively on NetOne customers given the improvements in services and products to meet world class standards.

“These products include the popular One Fusion which has seen droves of customers from competition coming on board to enjoy the highly valued NetOne products,” Mutandiro said.

NetOne reported a 1,7 percent growth in active subscribers in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the previous quarter to 4,8 million subscribers.

Econet led the pack with 6,4 million subscribers while Telecel was a distand third with a total 1,8 million subscribers.

NetOne’s fortunes turned on account of the new product initiatives that saw revenue averaging $400 000 per month starting August 2016 compared to $300 000 per month between January and June.
