Agriculture, mining nucleus of our economy

-

EDITOR — Zimbabwe’s economy is making an incredible turnaround with exports in minerals and tobacco exceeding projections.

It seems we are on a journey to being economically sovereign and will soon begin to fund all our projects without any financial assistance.

The Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development Dr Joseph Made recently said owing to the bumper harvest experienced this year, all maize imports had been banned because current grain deliveries indicate that the country will have surplus grain, instead of the usual deficit.

This shows there is hope at the end of the tunnel; the country’s food security is restored despite the menacing fall armyworm, which destroyed crops. Soon all the debts including that of electricity will be swept away in the blink of an eye if the exports maintain this trajectory.

The mining sector, being one of the key sectors from which finances are drawn, is showing great rebounding potential.

Additionally, the growth of the sector is expected to create employment and ensure the standards of living for all groups change.

Adopting computerised mining title systems is a great move towards economic growth. We lavish praise on Government for that.

All that is needed is for excellent management skills to be exercised in all sectors to ensure Zimbabwe becomes economically independent. Zvandasiya J., Harare.
