It’s just two days away from August and that means summer is coming.

YES in Zimbabwe, our summer starts in August although some prefer to call it spring because of the wind and brown leaves.

But the bottom line, generally is we all know of two seasons in Zimbabwe thus summer and winter.

So last week was the edition of Miss World Zimbabwe and likewise said all eyes were on the hosts, designers, guests and obvious former beauty queen Marry Chiwenga.

I must say, Zimbabwe we getting there and as fashion police, it would be myopic if we don’t correct each other.

One good thing I like about fashion is what you see is what you get.

Back to the issue so there was an outcry over why the host Rumbidzai Takawira chose that black dress and many said she could have changed attires like the norm as ceven at Miss World the host does that.

Looking at Rumbi, how bold she is, she wasn’t affected by the issue and said it is what it is.

But as a fashion critic, Rumbi, yes the dress was beautiful but you forgot you were on television and colour, my dear, attracts more.

So the dress being black although expensive, it didn’t do well or maybe some little accessory could go best.

I think we done with this issue and with how she is being advised, blasted or praised on social media, obvious somehow she can pick one or two.

Another hot issue last week was the understanding of black tie event.

Some guests were turned away at the show but later was rectified.

Do we understand the concept of black tie as we always see most invites have that theme?

According to Micaela English, if an invitation states black tie, abide by the rules below:

Ladies wear a long formal gown or a shorter fancy cocktail dress that is black tie appropriate.

Colours to keep in mind are jewel tones, emerald, ruby, amethyst, blue, nude, orange, and, of course, black. Bring out your best jewels and high heels and jazz it up!

Red it’s a no at black tie event for ladies.

For gentlemen, remember there’s really nothing as sophisticated as a man in classic black tie.

He should wear a dinner jacket (also known as a tuxedo jacket) and matching braided trousers, bow tie, and cummerbund or waist-coast, and black patent-leather or calf-skin pumps or laced oxfords. The shirt should be single cuff and white with cuff links.

However you can choose to ‘Play it safe’.

You can never be overdressed or overeducated, so just put on a proper black tie.

These days gentlemen can frequently get away with a dark suit (with a conservative tie and dark shoes) although strictly speaking this is the next dress code down.

And again, when it comes to an elegant dress code, the first thing popping up in our minds is black.

But let’s be honest, even if this might be the best choice, you stop looking so elegant when you step out of your door into the summer heat.

Pick of the week: Like said before, we approaching summer, so the golden colour is yellow.

Surprisingly, yellow is the colour of the sun and dressing in the colour of the sun from top to toe and still look elegant is possible.

Some doubt that wearing yellow makes you think you look like a DHL guy or a Disney minion?

Well, forget your fears instantly as it all depends on what clothes you choose and what accessories you are wearing with it.

First rule to look elegant in yellow: Don’t mix and match different yellow nuances. Stick to one and the same colour and make it a total look!

The second rule is: never wear black accessories or shoes with it.

The contrast is too extreme and it will make your outfit look cheap instantly.

Same for other colours, try to avoid them too, if you don’t want to look like a tropical parrot. Go for nude tones instead. This softens the flashy yellow and gives it an exquisite touch.

In case you feel like you need to pimp up your look up to a goddess like level, go for gold.

Ladies, golden heels, belts or accessories can look very pretty with yellow, since they come from the same colour range. For guys, it is still an issue as they don’t spend a lot of time on the idea of ‘seasonal colours’ in clothing.

And to some it is just not very manly to talk about ‘being a spring or summer guy’.

Well guys, if you chose the casual look, try a plain yellow shirt, untucked, with pants and boots.

This specific outfit includes a long sleeved mustard coloured shirt, a white crew neck t-shirt, charcoal wool pants, and burgundy leather boots.

If you someone like me who is a bit afraid of the colour yellow, just do the tie or a checked yellow short so that it won’t be too much.

Remember summer is all about colours and Yours Truly would be giving you a glimpse of the summer wardrobe so you won’t get caught off the hook.

Enjoy your weekend and keep fashion alive.
