Sadomba victory eye opener to local clubs

-

EDITOR — The landmark victory by Zimbabwe international Edward “Duduza’’ Sadomba over Libyan outfit Al Ahli Tripoli is a good lesson to our local clubs on how to handle contracts of foreign nationals who are plying their trade in our domestic topflight.

Al Ahli was ordered to pay the former Dynamos FC speed merchant $450 000 after being sued at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The former DeMbare player joined Al Ahli Tripoli in 2014 from Al Ahly Benghazi with his new paymasters striking an agreement to pay “Duduza’’ after terminating his contract, but the money was never deposited.

This prompted the veteran Warriors striker to take his case to FIFA and CAS with a helping hand from the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe.

After the appeal by Sadomba, CAS ordered Club Al Ahli to pay the Zimbabwe international $450 000 plus interest rate of five percent per annum as of January 11, 2016 until effective date of payment.

That was by no doubt a landmark victory for Sadomba.

But with our local “big clubs’’ like Dynamos FC, CAPS UNITED FC and Highlanders FC being home to foreign nationals like Cameroonian Joel Ntouba, this should serve as a lesson to these clubs on the way they are supposed to honour and treat their contractual agreements with players from other countries.
