ZRP Morris ‘keeper hogs the limelight

- Takudzwa Chitsiga Sports Reporter

ZRP MORRIS goalkeeper Tanyaradzwa Huni is receiving some rave reviews for his outstanding performances as his side have transformed from being whipping boys into a competitive outfit.

They have risen from the bottom of the log at Week 11 into seventh place in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One championship race. After his team’s 1-1 draw against Darwin United at Pfura, Huni once again was hailed for a sterling job. His team has now gone 11 games without defeat.

Darwin United found the target after 35 minutes from a corner, but the police outfit ZRP Morris refused to throw in the towel and found the equaliser in the 75th minute.

It was the in-form Huni who managed to keep his side in the game with some stunning saves until his teammate Kumbiraishe Dongo found the back of the net to restore parity.

Huni was brought in as a makeshift replacement after the injury of captain Innocent Mangezi at the end of last season and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Goalkeepers’ coach Lazarus Meke appears to have brought the best out of the young stopper.

Meanwhile, the ZIFA Central Region Division One will resume this weekend. The region took a mid-season break last weekend where only one match pitting Tongogara and MSU was played. Tongogara won 1-0 and reduced the gap between them and log leaders Nitchrut by three points.

Nitchrut are sitting on 38 points after 17 games and Tongogara are on second position on 35 points.

Central Region Fixtures Saturday: Tongogara v MSU (Battlefields), Black eagles v Ivan Hoe Mine (Simbi), Whawha v ZRP Gweru (Whawha), Vumbachikwe v Makusha (Vumbachikwe), Nitchrut v Telone (Peak Mine), Kwekwe Stars v Gwanda United (Mbizo).

Sunday: Border Strikers v Chrome Stars (Dulivhadzimu), Silo United v Blanket Mine (Mbizo), FC Platinum Under-19 v ZPC Munyati (Mandava).
